We have been together in a monogomous relationship since 1988.

There have been many ups and downs in our relationship, but there has been one constant: commitiment.

So when we were civil unioned on December 9 2000, we wanted to show that commitment and longetivity. After all, its not really accurate to ask a gay couple how long they have been married or civil unioned and use that as a litmus test of the strength of the gay relationship. Its kind of like assuming that a black person never drank water until the Whites Only sign was removed from the water fountain.

We chose to respond to this issue by creating a special 10-minute PowerPoint slide show, "Through the Years." This documented our lives from our birth through just days before our Civil Union. We arranged the photos chronologically (so you only saw photos of Scott for the first "three years" of the slide show) and used covers from Life Magazine as marking points to "hint" at the years.

The results were powerful. You couldn't help but see the vibrant life we had together as a gay couple -- 12 years before our Civil Union.

We have been able to export that slide show (with only a few tweaks required) as a video for you to watch:
